BRINGING ASHA HOME

BRINGING ASHA HOME
BY
UMA KRISHNASWAMI

Krishnaswami, U. (2006). Bringing Asha Home. (J. Akib, Illus.). New York: Lee And Low.

This story opens and closes on the Hindu holiday Rakhi, a day when siblings honour each other. Arun is eagerly awaiting the arrival of his adoptive sister which his parents are adopting from India: his fathers native country. In Arun's mind the adoption is taking a very long time. A picture arrives of his adoptive sister which sets Arun on the task of constructing a paper aeroplane which he thinks will bring his sister from India. Finally, after a year of waiting and armed with the paper aeroplane, Arun's father travels to India and returns with Asha, the new baby sister, who brings with her a Rakhi bracelet which she has clung to during the flight, to give to Arun. Appealing Illustrations by Jamel Akib throughout this book have added to the compelling story.
