Teacher Mrs Mack asks her students to describe their families. What transpires is the diversity of the student's families. Large, small and extended families are mentioned, as is parents, stepparents, single parent families and same-gender parents. They then discover the good and the bad in families. The teacher talks about the good and bad things which happen in all families. This book is upbeat and positive. Ann Morris's Families (Harper Collins, 2000) represents a variety of family situations with colour photographs of multicultural families and a simple text, but does not include same-gender parents.
