HAPPY FAMILIES
In celebration of The UN International Day Of Families (May 15th 2012), National Families Day Australia, & the National Year of Reading, we would like to invite you to the Tableland Libraries Happy Families blog, where we have listed a host of appropriate books for reading level pre-kindergarten to early primary school.
Our chosen topic covers a diverse range of family units including: one parent families, adopted children, interracial family members and discrimination toward different ways of life. These books are a great introduction to teaching children at an early age that although not all families are the same in the way they look, speak, or live, they are a family all the same. These books promote the importance of love and celebrate the uniqueness all families possess.
Picture books for children are a colourful and vibrant way of introducing children to read, so why not teach valuable lessons simultaneously.
As well as our listed titles we have also chosen related books and appropriate websites for you to visit if you feel you would like to cover a particular topic more thoroughly.
